Summary: there was a fire, and all she had left were memories...

	Fire

There was a fire and all she had left were memories.

There was a fire and all she had left were memories of a broken heart. Fortunately he had arrived just in time otherwise she wouldn't be alive to tell the tale of how she managed to get into this situation.

Freddie Benson was going to get married in two days, but his bride-to-be had cancelled at the last minute, saying that things were complicated and that they weren't meant for each other.

The only thing that was complicated was the fact that she was seeing someone else.

How long had it been going on? Why had it even started? What was he doing at the bottom of Sam Puckett's apartment, or what was left of it? No response.

There was fire and all she had left were memories.

There was a fire and all she had left were memories of the times they had spent together, without Carly or Gibby or anyone else. Those were the times she had cherished the most. Those were the times she really felt like he cared for her and she could do nothing because she was scared of getting hurt.

Like the day she had sent him a text with a smiley face. It was simple and awfully girly, like her best friend. It kind of hurt her pride to stoop so low.

Sam and Freddie had been friends for years, but had always had a rough kind of relationship.

Although she said, repeatedly over five years, that she hated the boy, it was a lie. Just like her supposed "true love", who dumped her and furthermore set her home ablaze.

There was a fire and all she had left were memories.

There was a fire and all she had left were memories and ashes of her apartment remains.

He stood there, in amongst the blackened ruins, like a hero does in those corny old movies. Sam could only stare at him as her eyes glossed over with tears. She wanted to run over to him, hug him, feel his strong arms wrap around her and just be protected from harm. He wanted to tell her that he still loved her. Nothing happened.

She had lost everything.

Except for her memories and possibly a small hope that someone would be kind enough to take her in just until she found a place, another place of her own.

Freddie and Sam just stood still and stared. Not at each other, but at the apartment. They remembered things they swore they'd forget to remember. Not the first or second kiss. But a third accidental moment in time, yes a sweet and short kiss, but something much more special and magical.

Who was she to start believing in magic again?

It was after their senior prom night, which had admittedly been more fun for both of them then they cared to even admit. They had shared the limousine back to Sam's apartment. After the driver stopped on the side of the road, because he refused to go any further because of the unknown area and neighborhood, both teenagers tumbled out. Still on a high from the music, food and drinks and friends they had encountered within the past four or five hours.

Once they were safely inside the apartment, the girl started searching for something. She stumbled over a fallen chair.

Freddie grabbed onto Sam's waist to stop her from falling.

Their eyes met for a moment, their heads slowly drew closer and finally, their lips met for a short but sweet little kiss. A third kiss is always the most magical.

There was a fire.

And all she had left were memories.
